MESSAGE TO THE PUBLIC OPINION

My name is Pablo Fajardo Mendoza.

I am the lawyer who legally represents the plaintiffs of the Ecuadorian Amazon in the litigation that has been running for 25 years against the oil company Chevron Corporation. As known publicly, since May 30, 2012, we have been conducting an enforcement action – or action of homologation of decision – in Canada. On May 23, 2018, the Court of Appeal for Ontario issued a ruling in which, among other things, the plaintiffs of Ecuador were ordered to pay court costs, which in total add up to CAD $350,000.

Alan Lenczner, main lawyer of the plaintiffs in Canada, informed the UDAPT that the Court of Appeal for Ontario extended the deadline to pay such amount to August 16, 2018.
